ASPEXS Medical Wing: 1st Medical Camp - 6th April Sunday - 9am to 4pm
Venue: Junior School Campus

Time has come to give back something to our beloved Alma Mater South Point. We all agree upon the school’s contribution to our success. We know if we try for rest of our lives we will not be able to pay back our debt, but at least we can show the gesture of good intention.

Last year we lost one of our friends Mr. Gaurav Gupta. When we were trying to gather resources to help him, he left us. This gave us one of our non-doctor alumni, Anindya Majumdar, a thought to start a Medical Wing of ASPEX. This idea was greeted by a big number of alumni as was evident on the website thread - "Medical Wing".

After series of meetings on every Sunday at Junior School over the last two months, a good number of ex-pointer doctors have come together under the flagship of ASPEXS (Association of South Point Ex-students') to form an ASPEXS Medical Wing.

To inaugurate the Medical Wing, we have planned to start with a Health Check-up service on April 6, 2008 (Sunday). The first health checkup service is dedicated to the ones, who has immense contribution in our life, i.e., teachers, ex-teachers, staff, ex-staff of our school. The health camp would start from 9 A.M. and would continue till 4 P.M. The program would be divided into two halves. The first half would be from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. and the second half would be from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M, with one hour lunch break from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M.

Apart from routine health check-up we would also have specialty services. From 12 noon to 1 PM, there would be an open forum where anyone & everyone can meet the specialists and address their queries. This is open to everyone who attends the medical wing. We welcome all ex-students to come & attend this open discussion between 12 noon to 1pm.

Dreams Die Young - A Debut Novel by C.V.Murali (Email:cvmural@vsnl.com)
(1980 Madhyamik, SPHS)

This tale is set against the backdrop of the Naxalite movement which rocked Bengal and Calcutta in the 60s and 70s and drew large number of youth from the colleges of Calcutta.

It tells the story of Rajat Sen, a successful professor in U.S., who is tormented by the memories of a disturbed past. Inner torment about social inequities and a close association with fellow collegiate Arindam had led a young and idealistic Rajat to an association with the Naxalite movement. As part of a group of young men and women, Rajat plans and executes daring plans to shake the foundations of bureaucracy and polity by killing key people. As Rajat is sucked into a vortex of high ideals and violence, his innocent, protected life as the only son of well-to-do parents seem to have been left a long way behind. However, is violence the answer to a corrupt society? He thinks so, until the day he comes face to face with reality ...

The book is available in various book stores across the country-Oxford, Landmark, etc and on the website at the following adddres: www.frogbooks.net

Gaurab Gupta, an ex-student of South Point High School (1990 Batch Secondary and '92 Higher Secondary) used to be a lively, cheerful and energetic person who had great plans for his future until he got affected with Hepatitis B. He needs immediate kidney transplantion. His life hinges on  a few dialyses, unless he manages to garner enough funds to go for necessary medication and kidney transplant. His ongoing medical expenses are also very steep and his father's pension and ad hoc aid from friends are not nearly enough. ASPEXS (SOUTH POINT EX-STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION) has taken the initiative to collect money to assist Gaurab‘s fight and has initiated a "SAVE GAURAV GUPTA FUND". An initial corpus of about Rs 50000 has already been collected.

ASPEXS invites all ex-pointers & specially the ASPEXS life members & batch captains for a meeting on Sunday, 30th September 2007, at 11am (Venue: South Point Junior School Campus) to discuss the way forward for this drive.

Summary of last Sunday's meeting is available here.
